Ce’cile has always been a mystery to many as it relates to her true persona. In real life is she like the character she plays in her video? Is she a hot gal that doesn’t need a broke pocket man? Is she intolerant towards the so called, “losers?” Does she really love “the man dem weh dweet”? Is she fascinating in the bedroom as her songs suggest?
Island Groove met with Ce’cile on the beautiful shores of her island home, Jamaica where we sat and she spilled all the juice to us. It has been a while since Ce’cile has been in the forefront on the local scene; this is about to change as the sultry singer is aggressively making her presence being felt with a tidal wave impact. The sexy songbird has a new super-glam look and about ready to start a whirlwind of activity to promote her album that’s near ready to hit store shelves. The controversial artiste has spent a lot of time overseas touring and combining efforts with musicians from different genres of music. This is also evident with the recent debut of her video with Latino acts: Cheka, Shadow Glow and Jomar that’s a major hit on the Spanish circuit. Her new album is set for release in Japan where she has an enormous fan base. Titled “Bad Gyal”, Ce’cile’s LP is one of the most anticipated releases this summer for the Japanese audience.
Ce’cile emerged with an instant chart-topping hit, “Changez”; this made her an over-night success. The single poked fun at several dancehall artistes including ace deejay, Bounty Killer. On the track she claimed the warlord was too stiff and so couldn’t be too interesting in the bedroom. This created mayhem when released to the public as this artiste seemed to top the list of untouchables. Other artistes responded to her song with recordings of their own and it sparked a field day in the media. This earned her the merit of fearlessness and a badge for controversy. Ce’cile went on to release a track titled, “Give it to me baby”; this was one of the most talked about singles for a Jamaican female artiste. “Give it to me Baby” suggested that women liked men who performed oral sex and encouraged them to step up and admit that they were indulging in this form of love-making. Her name was all over the news as she was rumoured to have a love-affair with Bounty Killer who she had a not-so friendly past with. Claims were made of spotting the two at various locations hanging out. She has always been plagued by hullabaloo as it was also speculated that she was a spoilt, rich kid from a high social background who has absolutely no place in the dancehall world. Despite all she has beat the odds by making her mark and solidifying her own niche in a business that is male dominated. Ce’cile Charlton is definitely driven and success will not slug her speed.
