Rihanna’s third disc, “Good Girl Gone Bad” is set for release on June 5th. This album drops only two years after, “The Music of the Sun” her debut album in August of 2005. Rhianna’s record label, Def Jam has catapulted her to the top and insists on keeping her there. It’s surprising that another album is being released while there is major success with her current. The label is excited about the content of, “Good girls, gone bad” and has insisted on releasing it.

“Umbrella” the first single from the new album was launched globally and features her mentor, Sean “Jay-Z” Carter. The video unveils Rhianna’s new look that is much sexier and mature than the image she usually depicts. The song was produced by C. Tricky Stewart and is a major hit. It gave her, her greatest debut yet; Rhythm radio reported the single as a bullet, the second most increased audience with a whopping 1.2 million more listeners. The song expounds the strength of a relationship. Rhianna expressed to the media that the song does not necessarily refer to a romantic relationship and can be used in reference to platonic ones as well. The album consists of other tracks that feature Justin Timberlake and Neyo, who is also a DefJam artiste. Rihanna is also dubbed the newest face of CoverGirl. The immensely popular cosmetic brand will feature her in their latest Advertising campaign.

The nineteen year old singer acquired her first taste of success with her dancehall reggae influenced hit, “Pon de Replay” in 2005. Many critics thought the young Bajan singer would have faded-out after her first album however she proved them wrong with two consecutive number one Billboard singles : “S.O.S’ and “Unfaithful” from her Sophomore effort. Rihanna’s career sky-rocketed in 2006 as she walked away with four of Billboards most coveted awards which were: Female Artist of the Year, Female Hot 100 Artist of the Year, Female Pop 100 Artist of the Year, and Hot Dance Airplay Song of the Year for “SOS. The single SOS was a major stepping stone in giving her mainstream accreditation. She attained tremendous achievements last year by copping a slew of awards: World Music Awards’ Best Selling International Artist, MTV Japan’s Video Music Award for Best New Artist in A Video, America’s Teen Choice Awards’ Breakthrough Female Artist, MTV Europe Music Awards’ Best R&B Artist, MOBO Music Award as Best International Artist and many others.

Rihanna was faced with a rumour of an affair between herself and DefJam owner, Jay-Z. She told the press recently that she refuses to let the gossip mill get her down. She has ignored the rumours and is in full focus of her career objectives. At first she said it was pretty hard for her and upsetting but now she’s not moved in anyway by what people want to think or believe. Rihanna is currently riding the billboard charts with Sean Paul in “Break It Off” and Jay Z with “Umbrella”. I.G.
