Reggae Sumfest’s fifteenth anniversary was an enormous one with record breaking attendance. The three day festival was a definite success with electrifying performances from top stars on an international scale.
There is no contest to the doctor dominating on dancehall night; all rags were in the air. The massive Catherine Hall crowd remained until 7 am to witness Beenie in action. He once again proved that he is an entertainer in every sense of the word pulling all the sleepy heads at Sumfest to full excitement. Mary J. Blige was among the best; her set was high energy and filled with emotions as she shed tears while performing for the audience who loved her. Beres Hammond stayed within the top performers; he did tremendously well bringing a soothing and relaxing atmosphere. Beenie man made a cameo in Beres’ set; the two did an impromptu remix of “Back it up” and “Pull up the Vibes” to the audiences delight. Buju Banton was well received; the gargamel put on a wonderful show so did LL Cool J who had all the ladies smitten. LL gave the ladies roses and had the stage filled with women who were all trying to get even a touch from him. There was non-stop screaming for the hip hop icon that proved he was truly the ladies love. Allison Hinds represented well for the women while the men did enjoy when she rolled it out of control. Taurus Riley was a crowd favourite as well; there were great anticipations for his performance and he certainly did deliver with his reigning hit, “She’s Royal”.
Ninja Man was among the dancehall night’s best performers as usual he was dressed to kill with a sword in hand while he dropped lyrical warfare at Bounti Killa. Even though Ninja professed war on Bounti he encouraged a non-violent election proving that his presentation was all entertainment. Shaneo, Hero and Chuck Fenda also made similar cries for a peaceful election 2007. Chuck Fenda’s performance blazed with energy. Lady Saw was also hot, scorching hot to the dancehall crowd and she never disappointed with her Mumma saw act. Anthony B was another sweltering number with current chart-topping hit, “Tease her”. Mavado got the crowd on a high and took the time to introduce a few up and coming acts. Bounti Killa also brought new troops on stage and was in his usual war mode. Macka Diamond’s set was pretty entertaining; she undressed on stage and made her exit in a push cart. Her hair was fiery red, she wore an original dancehall diva outfit. Her dancers were dressed in matching outfits and they were all an energy filled team. The audience responded well to Tanya Stephens. All in all Reggae Sumfest 2007 stayed true to being the greatest reggae show on earth. IG
